A lathe tool for a tool-holder comprises a shim 6, Fig. 1 (not shown), secured removably to the tool or holder, as by a screw 8, to bring the cutting edge la to the required height. A further shim 7, for use when the tool is inverted, is also secured by the screw. An invertible toolholder 22, Fig. 3 (not shown), with one, two or more tools 24a, 24b in recesses 23a, 23b, is provided with shims 29, 30. The thickness of the top shim 30 is equal to the thickness Ha of the tool, and the cutting edge is at the mid-point of the overall thickness Hl of the assembly. An abutment 31 transmits the cutting force. |
