An insert through a hole in the concrete wall of a swimming pool or other form of tank contg. fluid, and used for the attachment of a pipeline connection, has a flange covering the edge of the hole, and leaves a narrow axial or radial annular cavity between itself and the wall surface. In the zone of the annular cavity a counterbore forming a stuffing box is provided and is filled with a material which in contact with water expands, but is impermeable to water. This material is pref. bentonite possible mixed with glycerine or glycol, or it may be a hydrophilic synthetic resin gel, e.g. a polyurethane gel. The sealing material is prevented from escaping from the counterbore by a blocking ring of foamed rubber at each end, and the arrangement ensures that a watertight connection can be fitted to an existing hole without difficulty.
