The automatic tensioning device for the cable on a tower crane bogey has a drum (9) with two different diameters an an integral ratchet wheel (15) fixed to the bogey. A pawl (19) allows rotation of the drum in only one direction. The cable is in two parts. The ends (10,6) are attached to the large and small diameters of the drum. The other ends are attached to a winch fixed to the body of the crane. As one cable winds on the other cable winds off the winch. The device allows automatic tensioning without unsafe manual intervention.
