In a domestic appliance such as a clothes or dishes washing machine or an oven or a refrigerator/freezer, the operating and indicating unit is a relatively small component. It can be detached from the appliance and located in a recess in the front plate, which almost covers a complete wall of the appliance. The design allows the operating and indicating unit to be accommodated when there is a thick front plate. There is a frame at the rear of the recess in the front plate, to take the operating and indicating unit, so that there is an extension to secure the unit at the front edge of the recess. There is a cable to link the operating and indicating unit with the operating and functional components of the appliance.
