Two floats (1) are positioned side by side. Each has vertical posts (2) and they are joined to make a frame by cross beams (4) between the tops of the posts. Bearings in the floats carry a shaft which runs horizontally between them. A water wheel (6) is fixed to the shaft so that its lower part is within the stream. A water pump is fixed to the shaft at one side of the wheel and is driven directly by it. A cable (12) from the top of the frame runs to a post.
