PURPOSE:To produce 3,9beta-dihydroxy-9,10-secoandrosta-1,3,5(10)-triene-17-one (DSA), by incubating a mutant of a microorganism belonging to the genus Mycobacterium in a culture medium containing sterols as a substrate. CONSTITUTION:A mutant of a microorganism belonging to the genus Mycobacterium, e.g. Mycobacterium parafortuitum complex, Mycobacterium fortuitum, Mycobacterium phlei or Mycobacterium vaccae, wherein an enzyme hydrolyzing 3,9beta- dihydroxy-9,10-secoandrosta-1,3,5(10)-triene-17-one (DSA) or 3-hydroxy-9,10- secoandrosta-1,3,5(10)-triene-9,17-dione (HSA) is deleted or the activity thereof is reduced, is incubated in the conventional culture medium containing a carbon and a nitrogen sources, an inorganic salt, if necessary a vitamin, and various sterols as a substrate to produce DSA. |
