The invention concerns an improved sports ball filled with compressed gas which is made up of an elastomer wall enclosing a cavity which includes a compressible inflating gas of a predetermined quantity of air and a predetermined quantity of a gas of low permeability. This effectively enables the cavity to retain its compressed- gas-filled state within a desired pressure ambience for a period of time which would be considerably longer than in the case where the inflating gas were air only. The improvement consists in that the sound produced when the abovementioned gas system is resonated is essentially reduced by the introduction of a material in a quantity which is sufficient to disturb the acoustic resonance in the ball cavity.
