A fuel cell has a porous catalyst electrode comprising a gas impervious matrix with regularly spaced capillary openings, the openings being Venturi shaped and all substantially of the same diameter. The matrix has an overlying surface layer of a catalyst metal. The electrode is made by photo-forming a resist layer on a substrate and then depositing metal on the substrate where the resist layer has been removed. The grid is then stripped from the substrate and more metal is electro-deposited on the grid under controlled conditions to give Venturi-shaped apertures and finally a catalyst metal is deposited on the electrode. |
