The electrolyte level of a fuel cell 2 is controlled by a bellows 30 which operate a by-pass valve 28 diverting more or less of the exhaust gases including excess hydrogen from a radiator 16 in which water is condensed out. The water is separated at 20 and the gases are returned at 12 in a stream of hydrogen from tank 10. Additionally the temperature of the cell is sensed by thermostat 36 that controls a bypass 34 around the pump and separator 20 and thus controls the amount of excess hydrogen circulated with corresponding control of the cooling effect. |
