In a fluid filter device comprising filter elements 29, 60 mounted coaxially about rod 22, fluid enters by inlet 14, fills annular groove 16, flows through perforations 14A in inner housing 17 into the annular space between housing 17 and element 29, through elements 29 and 60, through central opening 23A in retaining member 23, and out by 15. [Back-up cylinder 30 has end flanges 30A, 30B seated in retainer cap 31 and member 23 respectively.] Spring members 32 clamp elements 29 between cup 31 and member 23. Valve member 38 is axially slidably carried on rod 22 and has outer surface 42 which slides against surface 43 of retainer cup 31. Valve 38 is provided with grooves 46 and perforations 47 (Fig. 5 not shown); flange 44 of the valve is urged against the inner surface of cap member 12 by spring 40. As element 29 becomes clogged, the pressure differential across valve 38 produces axial movement of the valve member against spring 40, and causes actuator member 52 to produce a coresponding movement of pointer element 49 on an indicator plate (Fig. 2 not shown). As clogging increases, grooves 46 come into communication with the inner surface of element 29 thus providing a by-fall route through perforations 47 and grooves 46 from the inlet to the outlet side of element 29. The inner housing and filter element assembly may be removed with cap 12.</p> |
