PURPOSE:To realize surface illumination or stereo-illumination by switching a plurality of pair of discharge electrodes succeedingly and spreading the locus of movement of a discharge column to 2 or 3 dimensions. CONSTITUTION:In the glass tube 2 having the disc-shaped discharge space 1 formed, three electrodes (a), (b), and (c) are arranged at regular intervals and between each pair of discharge electrodes which is obtained in the combination of the electrodes (a) and (b), (b) and (c), and (c) and (a), the lighting-up voltage in three- phase from a 3-phase lighting circuit 3 is applied succeefingly. As a discharge column (positive column) shifts in revolution, synchronized to the phase revolution of 3-phase lighting-up voltage in the disc-shaped discharge space 1, the locus of transfer spreads to 2 dimensions, and face illumination is obtained. |
