<p>A number of ultrasonic transducers are arranged around the periphery of a tube in order to detect any faults which are then displayed by acoustic to optical conversion. The speed of operation is sufficient for production purposes. A generator produces a sawtooth waveform at a particular frequency to produce an acoustic pulse which drives a number of comparators. Potentiometers provide a reference potential and give a delay to the leading edge of the waveform. The waveform is shaped and applied via back to back diodes to transducers around the periphery of a tube. The diodes ensure that the returned echos pass to amplifiers which drive an acousto optic display for direct display of any faults.</p> |
