The dimmer for a lighting system, switchable for domestic use also includes an automatic switching system to adjust to the light level, with a digital control system, and using light level sensors. A remote control can be used with the system, to operate the lights. A light diode is used to indicate the lighting level. A microprocessor is used for programmed switching sequence, with a simplified version at the position of a user. The system can be adapted so that devices such as electric motor can be controlled instead of lamps. The control circuit includes an input stage followed by two inverted, then a forwards and backwards counter, an operating state controller with a forwards counter and a comparator stage.
