Colour display with phosphor coated gas discharge cells - has colour filter series connected in front of same colour image points

The image points in a flat display screen are formed by numerous gas discharge cells coated with phosphor. Each displays a different colour in dependence on the type of phosphor used. A filter is incorporated in front of the image points, at least of the same colour, which is transparent for the emitted light by the respective phosphor. Preferably such filters are transparent only in the emission region of the image points in front of which they are fitted. Image points of several colours may have common filters. A purple filter may be used for red and blue image points, a cyan filter for blue and green, and a yellow filter for green and red. Filters for image points of a single colour may be combined with filters for multi-colour image points. The filters may be fitted on the front or rear side of the display screen.
