The sides (20,22) of freight containers transported by sea are secured between the slots of corner members instead of securing them by screws or bolts to conventional angles. Each carrier member can consist of a metal angle (10) and a fibre reinforced plastics element (28), Y-shaped in cross section. The slots are formed between the arms (16,17) of the angle element and the forked ends (24,26) of the inner element. Securing screws are inserted along the line (34) through the corner of the angle and the stem of the inner element. Alternatively the inner element (328) can incorporate the slots itself formed between double arms (336,324, 338, 326) and can be reinforced by a plain metal external angle (310). The latter design can be used in many alternative variations with differential shaped inner and outer members, includes various hollow inner members.
|
