PURPOSE:To reduce the number of pieces of out-of-prediction and to make a mode code showing a selection predictive value unnecessary, by using a means to produce plural numbers of predictive value at the side of a coding device and then selecting the predictive value to the sample value by a combination of sample values of the picture element used to produce the plural number of predictive values and its nearby picture element. CONSTITUTION:The predictive values P1-Pn are produced to the sample value X of a picture element x on a mesh point photo, and a predictive value Px is selected out of these predictive values. Then a predictive error signal obtained from the values Px and X is applied to a terminal 31 after a coding. This code is decoded to a predictive error signal Y through a decoder 32, and a decoded signal X is produced from an exlusive OR with the value Px and through an exclusive OR circuit 6. The value Px is selected by a multiplexer out of the values P1-Pn obtained from the element x and its nearby picture element and based on a selection signal delivered from a prediction selecting circuit 4. |
