The i.c. engine is intended (or modified) for running on fat of vegetable, animal, or mineral origin. Oxygen is supplied from a bottle (1), via an adjustable reducing valve (3) to solenoid- operated inlet valves (6). The fat is mixed, e.g. with methanol, to produce a permanently liquid fuel. The fats selected should be free of resin, salts and acids. The fuel is held in a tank (7), which is pref. adjacent to the engine block and insulated. It is admitted to the cylinders, via non-return valves (9), together with pressurised air, pumped from the container (12), through solenoid valves (10) operated by a distributor (11). Power output is controlled by controlling the oxygen supply.
|
