1,070,590. Stacking rods. HOLDING INTERCITO S.A. Jan. 12, 1966 [Jan. 12, 1965], No. 1548/66. Heading B8C. Rod-shaped welding electrodes 50 (Fig. 2) are jolted into a compact stack within a guide channel G by a reciprocating plunger 29 extending through an opening in the channel floor 10, a resiliently mounted packer ram 44 engaging with the top of the stack to prevent rods from jumping upwards during the jolting process. In the embodiment shown, the plunger 29 is mounted on a resiliently supported plate 16 and is raised by a cam 31. The resilient mounting of the plate 16 comprises rubber-lined rings 17, 18, 23, 24 connected by links 27, 28. A time delay is arranged between operation of the plunger 29 and packer ram 44, so that at least one working stroke of the plunger has been completed before the ram engages the top of the stack. The ram 44 is mounted on a lever 41 (see Fig. 1, not shown) pivoted at 42 against the action of spring 43 on lever 40. The lever 40 is moved into the position in which the ram 44 is operative by means of a compressed air cylinder 52. Articles are fed into the guide channel G from a slide, and after being compacted are packaged, for example, in a preformed container. |
