<p>A composite elastic yarn comprises at least one bulked thermoplastic yarn and an elastic filament-e.g. of rubber or spandex. The composite yarn is produced by feeding to a pair of capstan rolls and a ring spinning spindle the elastic filament from a package driven by a roller geared to the capstan rolls so that the filament is stretched by 50-400%, and the thermoplastic yarn under sufficient tension to remove its added bulk. The thermoplastic yarn may be a staple fibre or multi-filament yarn of a polyester, nylon, cellulose acetate, a polyolefin or an acrylonitrile polymer or copolymer, and may be bulked by means of a fluid jet, or by being crimped by false-twisting, stuffer crimping, or gear crimping, or in the case of a blend of shrinkable and non-shrinkable fibres, by shrinking the yarn.</p> |
