<p>The invention relates to a method and device for muffling the sound of a railway wheel (1) by means of a circular ring-shaped structural section (2) applied to the inner wall of the rim (11) of the wheel (1). According to the invention an insulating layer (3) of deformable resilient material is interposed between the outer surface (20) of the ring (2) and the inner wall (16) of the rim (11), the insulating layer is bonded to the ring (2) and to the wall (16) by means of an adhesive, and, the ring being cut by a slit (21), a radial pressure is exerted on the internal surface thereof, producing a crushing of the resilient material (3) with an increase in the diameter of the ring (2) and widening of the slit (21), then the ring is flanged in this position and at this increased diameter, the material (3) being crushed between the widened ring (2) and the wall (16). The invention is generally applicable wherever it is necessary to damp the vibrations of a railway wheel, and more specifically in order to reduce the running noise thereof. <IMAGE></p> |
