O-(2-Nitro-5-(2-chloro-4- tri-fluoromethyl-phenoxy) phenyl)- phosphates or phosphonates (I) are new. In (I) R is opt. substd. alkyl, alkenyl, phenyl, alkoxy, alkenyloxy, alkynyloxy, phenoxy, alkylthio, phenylthio or alkylamino; R1 is alkoxy, OH or a residue OM in which M is a metal ion equivalent or an equivalent of a cation formed by N-alkylation of an organic nitrogenous base; X is O or S; and X1 is H or Cl. (I) are useful as herbicides and plant growth regulants. They can be used as total or selective herbicides (depending on the rate of application) or as defoliants, desiccants, haulm-killing agents or germination inhibitors. |
