PURPOSE:To detect the degrees of deterioration easily and quickly by mixing oil to be measured in a prepared reagent contg. a good solvent for the oils to be measured, an alkali hydroxide corresponding to the total acid value set to a quality deterioration standard for oils and an indicator for analysis, and observing the colors formed thereby. CONSTITUTION:In the measurement of a rise in acid value owing to deterioration of electric insulating oils or the like, a soln. contg. a good solvent for oils (mixed solvents of toluene and alcohol or the like), an amt. of alkali such as KOH corresponding to the set total acid value (acid value of the amt. requiring care) of a constant amt. of the oil to be detected and a pH indicator (preferably Bromothymol Blue or the like showing blue - purple colors distinctly in alkaline side) is beforehand prepd. After a constant amt. of the oil to be detected is mixed with such soln., the soln. is left still and the colors formed are observed. In the case of acid values above the set value, the colors on the acid side are formed and therefore the degrees of deterioration are easily and quickly determined. |
