New water-insoluble monoazo dyestuffs and processes for their manufacture and application to polyolefine fibres

Water-insoluble monoazo dyes of formula in which B is a benzene or naphthalene residue having a hydroxy group in ortho position to the azo group and especially a residue of formula in which X, Y, X1 and Y1 each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl, alkoxy, cyano or nitro group, are prepared by coupling a diazotized aminobenzene or aminonaphthalene with a compound of formula in which X1 and Y1 are as above, and hydrolysis of acyloxy or alkoxy groups to hydroxy group if required. The coupling reaction may be effected in an organic solvent, e.g. glacial acetic acid, pyridine, dimethyl formamide, benzene or acetone.ALSO:Metal modified polyolefines are dyed with water-insoluble mono-ozo dyes of general formula in which X, Y, Y and X are hydrogen or halogen atoms or alkyl, alkoxy or nitro groups. Copper, zinc and nickel metal are referred to, and in examples 2 and 3 claret and scarlet dyeings are obtained on nickel modified polypropylene.
