PURPOSE:To heighten the safety of a vehicle, by providing a brake to apply braking force to the ring gear of a differential gear mechanism for the rear wheels of the vehicle and by interlocking the operating section of the brake to a differential gear lockup section to apply extremely strong braking force to the vehicle parked. CONSTITUTION:The motive power of an engine is transmitted to a differential gear mechanism 5 through the drive shaft 4 of a transmission. The pinion shafts 7 of a right and a left rear wheels are turned by the rotation of the ring gear 6 of the differential gear mechanism 5. The lower part of the transmission case 3 is provided with an opening 3a, in which a brake shaft 10 is supported by a bearing 9. A brake gear 12 on the brake shaft 10 is engaged with the ring gear 6. A brake mechanism 16 housed in a casing 13 is mounted on one end of the brake shaft 10. In parking, a parking lever is pulled to bring a brake shoe 18 into pressure contact with a brake drum 17 through a cable 34, rods 33, 35, etc. to brake the shaft 10. |
