2-Aryloxy-amidoxime cpds. - useful as antidepressants

Amidoximes of formula RO-CHR'-C(NOH)-NH2 (I) and their acid-addn. salts, racemates and enantiomers are new (where R' is H or Me and R is indolyl, carbazolyl, indanyl, quinolyl, isoquinolyl or tetrahydronaphthyl). 2-(4-Indolyloxy) propionamidoxime (Ia) is specifically claimed. (I) can be prepd. by reacting ROH with R'-CH(Cl)-CN and reacting the prod. with NH2OH. (I) are antidepressants, e.g. with an ED50 of 0.5-10 mg/kg (i.p.) against reserpine-induced ptosis in mice and an LD50 of 50-200 mg/kg (i.p., mouse). They can be used to treat depression and various CNS disorders.
