PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of an error in copying, and to perform efficient copy recording by automatically detecting the shape of an image to be recorded, and automatically selecting an image recording member whose shape conforms to that of the detected image and then preforming the recording. CONSTITUTION:A platen cover 1 is provided with a coloring member 2, and an original exposing device for copying is used to obtain a detection signal for shielding by an original 6 placed on a platen 5 from color sensors 4. Those sensors 4 are arranged at intervals corresponding to kinds of original size, and the difference between the ground color of an original and the color of the coloring member 2 is detected to detect the size of the original. Respective outputs of photodiodes having different spectral sensitivity characteristics in the sensors 4 are compressed logarithmically to detect whether light with specific wavelength is incident to the sensors 4 or not, thereby performing prescribed paper feeding control on the basis of the detection information. When the size and shape of an original image can not be detected automatically, automatic switching from an automatic selection mode for an image recording part to a manual selection mode is carried out. |
