The output shaft (10) of the sewing-machine motor (1a) projects with a coupling end part through the insertion orifice of the housing; through this orifice is inserted the end part (9), designed for receiving this coupling end part, of a connecting member coupled to the drive shaft of the gear (8) of a hand-operated knitting apparatus. A spring-loaded coupling finger (12) is mounted pivotably in a slot (11) of the coupling end part of the motor output shaft (10). When the connecting member (9) is inserted onto the coupling end part of the motor output shaft (10) in the fixable relative position of the sewing machine (1) and knitting apparatus (2) provided for this purpose, the coupling finger (12) engages into a groove (9a) of the connecting member and couples the sewing-machine motor (1a) and knitting-apparatus gear (8), whilst a driving wheel (14) of the sewing mechanism is uncoupled from the output shaft (10) of the sewing machine (1). The removal of the knitting apparatus or of the connecting member (9) from the coupling end part of the motor output shaft (10) leads, under the effect of the spring (13) loading the coupling finger (12), to the coupling of the driving wheel (14) to the motor output shaft (10). The speed control of the knitting-machine drive takes place by the control means assigned to the motor (1a) of the sewing machine (1). This guarantees a perfectly controllable drive of the knitting apparatus, without the latter having to be provided with a separate motor and control means. <IMAGE>
