A tying machine for wrapping articles in flexible weldable strips, which works substantially faster than the conventional machines, is described. For this purpose, the cutting and sealing device is designed so that the feed of a new strip all round the article can take place simultaneously with the sealing of the preceding strip, a track-opening mechanism being put into operation at the same time as a result of the activity of the cutting and sealing mechanism. The cutting and sealing head is provided with grippers (120, 128) for gripping the two ends of the strip, with a sealing means (138) for sealing the two ends to one another, with stripping pins for ejecting the strip from the track, and with further means (136, 140, 122) for feeding a new strip. <IMAGE>
