For the machine reading of music and for converting this music into machine-processable information items, a device is provided which has a music-sheet receiving device (2) and at least one reading optics (1) directed towards the receiving device, which optics is followed by a converter (18) which recognises the optical symbols of the music notation picked up by it and converts them into machine-processable signals and the output signals of which can be stored in a subsequent memory (23). The memory (23) can be advantageously followed by an interpreter (24), by means of which a recording device (26) optionally equipped with a recording medium (28) can be driven. <IMAGE>
