The invention relates to a process for the preparation and casting of nodular iron, in which the latter is prepared and kept hot in a holding furnace, such as a channel type induction furnace with a separate inlet and outlet of the "teapot" type. The process is characterized in that magnesium or a magnesium-containing substance is added to the iron melt in a treatment vessel or ladle 7. This vessel 7 is or can be suitably connected to the holding furnace 1, and the iron melt with the magnesium additive 12' is stirred in the vessel. The slag formed in this vessel is skimmed off the top of the melt, and the melt is introduced into the holding furnace, from where it is later cast by a continuous or intermittent process (Figure 2). <IMAGE> |
