PURPOSE:To automatically record the relation between elapsed years and strain, by measuring diffraction strength curves of a casing and a rotor at prescribed parts through an X-ray strain measuring device when operation is not carried out. CONSTITUTION:A material to be tested is irradiated with X rays radiated from an X-ray generator 10, and a rotary system is put in operation by a goniometer 11. Diffracted rays scattered by said material are counted by a sintillation counter 12, and an arithmetic device 13 calculates various physical quantities. The quantity corresponding accurately to X-ray strain is integral width, which is obtained easily by dividing the area encircled with a diffraction strength curve and an transverse axis by maximum intensity. The calculated physical quantity is recorded on a recorder 14 for a long period. A monitoring period should be >=1 year at a minimum, and the result is compared with a master curved line obtained by an experiment to estimate the current remaining life without reference to the accidental occurrence of a change in material quality. |
