THERMAL DISPLACEMENT CORRECTION DEVICE

PURPOSE:To remove the influence of thermal displacement by providing the cross rail of a gantry machine tool in close contact with the guide face of one column and at a gap from the guide face of the other column so that the change of the gap is detected to correct the position of a spindle head. CONSTITUTION:The corss rail 4 of a gantry machine tool is provided in close contact with the guide face 8 of a column 2 and at a horizontal gap G from the guide face 7 of a column 1. The size change of the cross rail 4 caused by the heat is absorbed by the gap G and the gap length is changed. The value of the gap G is measured by a detector 15 and the position correction quantity delta of a spindle head 5 is calculated based on the gap G value to perform the position correction. Accordingly machine deformation caused by the heat is prevented and the position of the spindle head can also be corrected precisely.
