PURPOSE:To prevent the oil droplet generated during a partial cylinder operation for a long time from being tarred by forcibly releasing the partial cylinder operation to perform a full cylinder operation when the partial cylinder operation is continued for a predetermined time or longer. CONSTITUTION:The air flow to resting cylinders 10d-10f is cut off and also rest side injectors 26d-29f are made off by closing an intake cutoff valve 24 by means of the first diaphragm device 26 introduced with a negative pressure during a light load operation of said engine. In addition, a discharge cutoff valve 40 is fully opened by means of the second diaphragm device 42 to feed back the discharge gas to the resting cylinders 10d-10f. In this case, if a partial cylinder operation is started by a control device 64, the operation time is counted and when the operation time exceeds a predetermined time, e.g., two hours, a warning is given to the driver, then a control is made to switch to the full cylinder operation forcibly and to return to the partial cylinder operation again. |
