MOULDS WITH ROUGHENED SURFACE FOR CASTING METALS

A continuous casting mould with roughened surface is such that, on first contact with the melt, heat transfer is controlled by virtue of the melt coming into contact only with the peaks (f) of the projections on the surface and an air gap is formed between the melt and the valleys in the surface. Trapped gases can escape along the parallel and continuous valleys to the edge of the mould the mould can be used in conventional continuous casting and in caterpillar type mould belts.
