The door or window fitting is of the kind which includes at least one mounting plate (10) and a part (15) which projects from the in-use rear face and is required to be recessed into a door, window or surrounding frame. The mounting plate has rounded end portions (12). - After a bore (30) has been drilled to receive the rearwardly projecting part shallow recesses (31) can be drilled (preferably with the same drill) on either side to receive the rounded end portions of the mounting plate.
