The invention relates to a process for producing decorative coating materials based on paper webs impregnated with thermoplastically curing synthetic resin solutions. The aim of the invention is to improve the processing and service characteristics of materials of this kind, which can especially be achieved by variable combination possibilities of the synthetic resin solutions used. The object was to overcome adhesion problems between different resins within a paper web. A multi-layer or multi-ply paper web, the upper ply or layer of which consists of bleached cellulose and the lower ply or layer of which of low quality cellulose or wood material or wastepaper material, is impregnated and/or coated in successive stages on both sides with different resin solutions. The coating materials produced according to the invention serve for the surface coating of wood materials in furnishing and interior decoration.
