PURPOSE:To obtain a public telephone set with less power consumption, by stopping counting operation regarding the kind of a counterfeit coin once the counterfeit coin is inserted, and eliminating the need for a mechanism for returning the counterfeit coin. CONSTITUTION:A public telephone set consists of a telephone set circuit 10, control part 20 including a CPU, and coin handling part 30. When coins are inserted before or during a telephone call, the coin handling part 30 detects the kinds and numbers of the coins. If a counterfeir coin is detected, the handling part 30 stops counting succeeding inserted coins of the kind and reports the kinds and numbers of coins to the control part 20. The control part 20 counts and stores a charging signal generated during the telephone call to sum up the charge for the telephone call to be accepted and at specific intervals of time during the telephone call and after on-hook operation, the kinds and numbers of coins to be accepted are calculated on the basis of the amount of inserted coins and the charge to be accepted to allow the coin handling part 30 to accept coins of specified kinds at the same time. The counterfeit coin normal coins inserted after it, and the remaining coins of other kinds are returned after said handling is carried out on the ending of the telephone call. |
