<p>A gas, more particularly an air, bearing, has at least one component which comprises a bearing member 2 which is permeable to gas, which is made of porous material and through which gas is directed into the interior of the bearing. The bearing member is preferably made of a porous, sintered ceramic material of moderate coefficient of thermal expansion, whereas the mating bearing member, is made of a highly compacted ceramic material or of metal.
