Mixing of an aqueous suspension of a catecholamine in the presence of disodium edetate and sodium metabisulphite with active charcoal at a pH of 4.5 under nitrogen and filtration results in a catecholamine solution with less than 1 ppm heavy metals, from which the catecholamine is precipitated and converted into a water-soluble complex with a thiol derivative of an alpha -amino acid by addition of a 0.5 - 5 % by weight aqueous solution of the thiolic compound together with an acid or a compound with an acid reaction, and subsequent addition of a base to a pH of 6.0 - 7.5. The prepared solutions are, owing to the absence of ferric ions and borate ions, stable even under aerobic conditions and are used as eye drops for the treatment of glaucoma. |
