The invention relates to a device for guiding a running web in a desired running direction. At least one guide roller arranged in a web loop is driven in run-correcting pivoting movements about an axis essentially vertical to the running direction of the web and intersecting the web plane perpendicularly. Known devices of this type either have a sluggish responsiveness or tend to obtain an oscillating regulation of the web run. The object is to provide a device of this type, in which the correcting effect of the guide roller is improved in terms of a sensitive response and oscillating regulation is avoided. This is achieved, according to the invention, in that an independently driven spreading roller bears with prestress on the surface of the web at a short distance in front of or behind the guide roller in the running direction of the web, the axis of rotation of the spreading roller being parallel to the axis of rotation of the guide roller only in the basic position of the latter.
