The process for the production of a decorative glass article involves feeding a heat-softened glass material to a mould (5), the decorative effect of the glass article being achieved, at least in part, by means of coloured sections. The surface of the mould (5) which is to come into contact with the glass material is coated, at least partly (at 13 and 14), with a dye before the glass material is fed in. After the glass material has been fed in, it is pressed against the mould (5) by means of a suitable instrument (8) in order to form a blank (15) with the desired shape from the glass material. After slight cooling, this blank is separated from the mould (5). At least the coloured parts of the surface of the blank (15) are subjected to heat treatment, the temperature being significantly higher than the temperature at which the blank (15) was moulded. <IMAGE>
