PURPOSE:To make possible the measurement of nickel ion concentration, even if it is small in quantity while enabling continuous measurement by a method wherein, after an oxidizing agent is added to an aqueous solution containing nickel ions, a nickel complex is produced by adding a color former thereto and the light absorptivity of the nickel complex is measured. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution 1 containing nickel ions and an oxidizing agent 2 added thereto is introduced into a coil-like cell 4 and, while it flows through the cell 4, given enough time until divalent nickel ions are oxidized to become trivalent nickel ions. Subsequently, the aqueous solution 1 which has been subjected to oxidation by getting rid of the oxidized cell 4 is brought to a junction P2 where a color former 5 sent out by a color former adding apparatus comprising a combination of a pump 6 and a container for containing the color former is added to the aqueous solution 1. The aqueous solution 1 with the color former 5 added thereto generates a chelate reaction while passing through a coil-like color developing cell 7 and forms a water soluble complex where the color former 5 is coordinated with trivalent nickel ions. The aqueous solution 1 subjected to color developing process and has got rid of the color developing cell 7 is caused to flow in a flow-type light absorbing cell 8b and to measure the transmission intensity of the light from a light source 9 provided at one end of the cell 8b by means of a transmitted light detector 10. |
