PURPOSE:To make it unnecessary to install a particular insulating material by forming a side wall of battery case with a ceramic cylinder having insulating property and a high mechanical strength and forming a hermetically sealed battery case by attaching a metal material for negative electrode and a matal material for positive electrode to the upper and lower portions respectively. CONSTITUTION:A metallized layer 28 is preformed at the lower part of internal circumference of a ceramic cylinder 24 and a positive can 25 is brazed. Thereafter, a battery element 20 is inserted, a negative can 26 is placed over the ceramic cylinder 24 via a gasket 27 and these elements are pressed. Thereby the opening edge of the side wall portion 26'' is engagingly fixed to a stepped portion 24', and a gasket 27 is capable of tightly sealing the inside thereof against a liquid with such a pressing force. Since the side wall of battery case is formed in a ceramic cylinder, a particular insulating material is not required for inside of the case. Thereby, availability of the inside of case can be improved, assembling workablity can be also improved, mechanical strength of battery case can be enhanced and material cost can also be saved. |
