PURPOSE:To bundle smoothly fiber cores at a high degree of bundling without damaging the cores by fitting a heat shrinkable tube onto the exposed core groups from the outside and heating the fitted part thereby converging the fiber groups. CONSTITUTION:A heat shrinkable tube 15 having an inside diameter slightly larger than the outside diameter of fiber core groups 11-1-11-n, which are stripped of a covering layer 12 and are exposed, is inserted onto the core groups from the outside thereof. The tube 15 is manufactured of, for example, polyolefin crosslinkable by irradiation into a cylindrical shape. The tube 15 is then heated at about 100 deg.C so that tube 15 is thermally shrunk. The tube 5 is thereby fixed to the end part of the fiber core groups. A fixing cylindrical body 21 is inserted onto an optical fiber 13 fixed with the tube 15. Thereafter, the end part of the fiber 13 is polished. The fiber core groups are thus bundled and fixed without receiving any damage. |
