The present invention relates to a method for forming a desired value of a regulating or controlling device for the feed temperature of a heating system as a function of the external temperature. Such desired values are normally prescribed for the regulator as heating curves. The heating curves are nonlinear relationships, and as such are difficult for a computer to process. With the aid of the invention, the curve is resolved in two straight lines of differing gradient, which meet at a common point. This point is positioned where the relationship between the heating curve and the linear relationship is at a maximum with reference to the external temperature.
