PURPOSE:To facilitate manufacture of a storage battery, and enhance the work efficiency of the battery by tapering the inner surface of a hollow terminal and the upper section of an electrode pole, and subjecting the hollow terminal and the electrode pole to resistance welding at the same time when a container and a lid are fused. CONSTITUTION:After a lid 3 is held with a lid holder 10, a heating plate is supplied between a container 5 and the lid 3 so that the peripheral fused surfaces of the lid 3 and the container 5 are brought into contact with the heating plate thereby heating the above fused surfaces. Next, the heating plate is removed from between the container 5 and the lid 3, then the peripheral fused surface of the lid 3 held with the lid holding 10 is brought into contact with the peripheral fused surface of the container 5. Following that, the fused surfaces of the lid 3 and the container 5 are fused airtightly and liquid-tightly by pressing the lid 3 as indicated by the arrow, and the entire inner circumference surface 2 of a hollow terminal 1 is brought into contact with the entire outer surface of the tapered part 8 of an electrode pole 6 by pressure before these surfaces are subjected to excellent resistance welding by current feeding between electrodes 12 and 13. |
