摘要 PURPOSE:To reduce greatly smear and at the same time to simplify extremely a shutter mechanism, etc., by forming an FT-CCD of an image pickup device with a scanning circuit which can transfer vertically only the stored electric charge corresponding to a pickup image. CONSTITUTION:The electrodes of an image pickup lement are not connected in common in the vertical direction but connected to a scanning circuit 7 independently of each other. The circuit 7 delivers a pulse phiPI in reponse to a vertical shift pulse phiVS. The figure (a) shows a case where the incident light of high luminance is irradiated and shows the first photoelectric converting period. The figure (b) shows a case where the electric charge stored at an image pickup part is transferred vertically to a memory part. In such a way, no driving pulse is impressed to an electrode n1 after the electric charge stored under the electrode n1 is transferred to the place under an electrode n2. In the same way, the following driving pulse is not impressed as the electric charge is transferred to electrodes n3 and then n4 from the electrode n2 to hold a stored potential state and to limit the generation of smear only to a region SB.
