The heat exchanger element (HE), which is cast in one piece, has transverse walls (5, 5a) which extend parallel to one another between two side walls (3). Five inner transverse walls (5) subdivide the interior of the element (HE) into six flow passages (4) which are alternately intended for the throughflow of two flow media between which the heat exchange takes place in accordance with the counterflow principle (1, 2). The surfaces (6) of the transverse walls (5, 5a) and also of the side walls (3), which surfaces face the flow passages (4), form first heat exchange surfaces on the sides of both media. Second heat exchange surfaces are formed by pins (7) which extend across from transverse wall to transverse wall through the flow passages (4). A plurality of such elements (HE) can be combined to form a high-capacity heat exchanger which given the use of a suitable material, e.g. a nickel alloy, is suitable for gas turbines at high gas temperatures in the order of magnitude of 1000 DEG C. A high efficiency is ensured, since the first and second heat exchange surfaces form one coherent part. <IMAGE>
