The present device has the object of storing and replaying video films in 3-D, but also to render these video films playable for other video devices. This is achieved by separately recording the right-hand and left-hand channel through a head pair which is arranged in such a manner that it records or plays the upper half (left-hand camera) and a head pair which records or plays the other half (right-hand camera) of the video tape simultaneously, as the result of which, when only one channel is played on a currently commercially available video device of the 2000 system, a full frame appears in full colour on the screen of a television set or of a video movie screen. Furthermore, this device is capable of doubling the recording time on a "turn-over" cassette and to provide the possibility for endless replaying which is achieved by the head player which, allocated to the lower half of the tape, additionally records or plays this lower half of the tape whilst tape and head drum are running backward. Particularly suitable for video movie theatres and advertising.
