The device comprises the resection instrument (3) which feeds irrigation water through the resection shaft (11) into the bladder (1), and a suction device (2) which has a trocar (20) introduced through the abdominal wall into the bladder. The metering device (13) of the resection instrument (3) controls the supply of water to the bladder in such a way that in each case the amount of water fed into the bladder corresponds to the amount of liquid pumped out of the bladder by the suction device, the liquid pressure being approximately constant. Advantageously, therefore, the irrigation process does not interrupt the course of the surgery, and the risk of over-expansion of the bladder is avoided by the controlled supply of water. <IMAGE>
